Application

Distract, apply, & reward!

Distractions are key! Using treats (peanut butter works great!), applying right before mealtime, or following with a belly rub are positive, effective ways to allow time for the product to work it's magic!

Before applying any balm, clean up any excess dirt or debris evident around the affected area.

Snout Soother Application: Use two fingers or a low-absorbent cloth to gently apply a generous amount of Snout Soother to your dog’s nose. The more often you are able to apply Snout Soother to your dog’s nose, the better. To start, we recommend applying the balm at least two to three times daily. Using the balm before bed is ideal due to the peak of healing and regeneration that occurs in dogs while they sleep.

Reduce frequency as your dog’s nose improves using less often to maintain a beautiful, healthy snout.

Skin Soother Application: Use two fingers or a low-absorbent cloth to apply a generous amount of Skin Soother covering the area completely. Repeat one to three times daily. Consistent & frequent application to open wounds is crucial to protect against infections & harmful bacteria.

Decrease application as the area improves.

FAQs

What uses is Snout Soother recommended for?

Snout Soother nose balm for dogs can be used for the following:

  • Dry, Chapped Nose
  • Crusty & Cracked Nose
  • Windburn Prevention
  • Natural Sunscreen
  • Extreme Weather Conditions
  • Dry Skin around the face, lips and ears
  • Canine Dry Eye
  • Brachycephalic Breeds

How often should I apply Natural Dog Snout Soother?

The more often you are able to apply Snout Soother to your dog's nose, the better. We recommend applying at least 2-3 times per day - especially before bedtime. Once your dog's nose is healthy, you can reduce the frequency of applications to maintain a healthy and hydrated nose.

What do I do if my dog resists applying the nose balm to his nose?

Many dogs do not want their noses messed with because those tissues are highly sensitive - touching IS painful even if they don't show it (Dogs are stoic by nature). Dogs also have many nerve endings in their noses. Imagine chapped lips - ouch!

There are several ways of accomplishing this (depending on your dog). What we hear the most from our customers is to make sure your dog associates the application of Snout Soother as a "reward" - not as a negative or confining situation.

Holding down or confining may not be the best option, either, as most dogs will resist or fear constraint. If you coax your dog with a FIRM, but gentle, approach (and sometimes treats), you should get a better response.

You might try holding a food reward in your hand and let your dog get a sniff of it. As he is licking or nibbling the treat, try to carefully swipe a bit of Snout Soother on your dog's nose. If your dog begins to associate yummy treats with getting something put on his nose, you should have a better response.

You could also try tug toys or belly rubs - anything to distract your dog. Tug works well for many dogs and they will let you do just about anything to their noses with a tug toy firmly locked in their jaws. At that point, keeping the tug toy is way more important than worrying about anyone touching their nose.

Don't give up! They will finally end up with a healthy nose and be able to live pain free.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SNOUT SOOTHER AND COCONUT OIL?

Virgin organic coconut oil is amazing, which is why we include it in many of our formulas! However, coconut oil is a very light moisturizer and just does not have the same power as Snout Soother. We hear from many customers, who don’t get results from only using coconut oil, that they are finally able to control their dog’s dry nose with Snout Soother.

WHAT IS SKIN SOOTHER RECOMMENDED FOR?:

Skin Soother is essential for:

  • Healing wounds, minor cuts, abrasions, burns, scrapes, Inflamed bug bits
  • Doggy Pimples, rashes, dry / itchy / irritated skin
  • Post surgery
  • Yeast and fungal build up
  • Speeding recovery
  • Soothes discomfort
  • Scarring

WHAT IF MY DOG LICKS IT OFF?:

Natural Dog Company products are 100% natural, safe and edible. Our products will still work even if most of it is licked off. Though, for best results, we advise using distractions. Give your dog a raw bone to chew on, a yummy treat, dinner, or play with them for a few minutes until the carrier oils have had a chance to work it’s magic. We hear peanut butter works great!

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I APPLY SKIN SOOTHER?

We recommend applying at least 2-3x daily. Frequent application initially is important. Be sure to generously apply, covering the entire area. Decrease use as you see fit.

HOW SOON SHOULD I SEE RESULTS?

This is hard to say, it is varies greatly depending on the initial condition and frequency of use. Many customers see incredible results within the first week, while others may take longer. It is important to apply multiple times daily and try to distract your dog from licking in order to get the best results.
